How to download and read

Kindle, iPad, tablet and phone: the easiest way to get the book onto each device.

Every book comes in two formats. Pick the one that suits the device your child will read on:

  • PDF: keeps the pages exactly as they were designed, with pictures and text together. Best for iPad, tablets, computers and printing at home.
  • EPUB: the text adapts to the screen and you can change the font size. Best for Kindle and other e-readers.

You’ll find both in My Account, under the PDF and EPUB buttons for each book. Download them as many times as you like.

Send to Kindle

Use the EPUB file. Amazon converts the book for your Kindle automatically.

From a computer (easiest)

  1. Download the EPUB from My Account.
  2. Go to the Send to Kindle website and sign in with your Amazon account.
  3. Drag the file in, choose your Kindle and click send.

By email

  1. Find your Kindle’s email address: on Amazon, go to Account & Lists → Content & Devices → Devices and choose your Kindle. The address ends in @kindle.com.
  2. In the same area, under Preferences → Personal Document Settings, add your own email address to the Approved Personal Document E-mail List.
  3. Send an email to the @kindle.com address with the EPUB attached. If Amazon asks you to confirm by email, confirm it.

The book shows up in your Kindle library within a few minutes. On e-ink Kindles, the pictures appear in shades of grey.

Send to iPad

  1. Open My Account in Safari on the iPad and tap PDF (or EPUB).
  2. Tap the Safari downloads icon and open the file.
  3. Tap share and choose Books. The book is saved in the Books app, ready to read even without internet.

On iPad, go for the PDF: the pages look just like the book, with full-screen pictures.

Send to a tablet

On Android tablets (Samsung, Motorola, Lenovo and others):

  1. Open My Account in the tablet’s browser and tap PDF.
  2. Open the downloaded file from the notification or from the Files app. It opens in the tablet’s PDF reader, such as the one in Google Drive.

To keep the book on a bookshelf, use Google Play Books: in the app, turn on Enable PDF uploading in the settings, then open the downloaded file and choose Play Books. It works with both PDF and EPUB.

Send to a phone

  • iPhone: same as on iPad: Safari → downloads → share → Books.
  • Android: same as on a tablet: open the downloaded PDF or send it to Play Books.

On a phone, turn it sideways to see the whole page, or use the EPUB, where the text adapts to the screen.

Send to grandparents and others

In My Account, tap Send on the book. You can send it by email or create a link for WhatsApp. Whoever receives it opens the link and downloads the PDF or EPUB, no account needed. The link lasts 7 days and you can cancel it whenever you like.
